GOURMAND

Animal?

The Gourmand is one of five playable Slugcats in the More Slugcats Expansion. They are slow and heavy, though they are capable of using their mass to their advantage by slamming into other creatures. They can also use objects to craft and can procure random objects from their stomach.

Gourmand is unlocked as a playable character after completing the campaign as either Monk or Survivor.

Movement

Exhaustion

Gourmand enters an exhausted state after excessive jumping or sliding, or after throwing a Spear. When exhausted, Gourmand's speed and jump height are significantly reduced. Additionally, their Spear throws do less damage and travel a shorter distance. Gourmand recovers energy when all controls are released. It is easier for Gourmand to enter and remain in an exhausted state when near predators, in rare cases being triggered only by throwing a Rock.

Sliding

Gourmand has a very powerful slide, able to slide across up to ~2/3rds of the screen, making it ideal for traversing flat areas quickly. Sliding into a creature deals 0.25 damage and temporarily stuns the creature. Gourmand is completely immune to Spears while sliding.

Rolling

Gourmand can roll for a significantly longer time than other Slugcats, making it another good option for traversing flat areas. Rolling into a creature deals 1.0 damage and stuns the creature for 2.4 times as long as a slide. Gourmand is completely immune to Spears while rolling.

Spear Through

When Gourmand is not exhausted, Spears deal 3 damage on hit. Throwing a Spear instantly exhausts Gourmand and initiates a roll. This gives Gourmand more forward momentum than a normal throw, allowing them to cross wider gaps than by normal throw-boosting.

When Gourmand is exhausted, Spears have reduced velocity, a curved throw trajectory, and deal only 0.3 damage.

Slamming

Landing on creatures at high speed slams them and deals between 2.0 and 20.0 damage depending on height. This launches Gourmand in the opposite direction. Caution should be taken when traversing cramped spaces with friendly Scavengers and tamed Lizards, as this can damage both enemies and allies.

Weight

Gourmand is much heavier than other Slugcats, granting them greater knockback resistance. Additionally, Gourmand's bulk grants them resistance to damage, reducing the chance that a thrown Spear is fatal by 15% and guaranteeing that Lizard bites only incapacitate them (except for Red Lizards and Train Lizards, whose bites remain fatal).

Gourmand's increased mass decreases the jump height gained when holding a Squidcada and speed when riding a Jetfish. This can be bypassed by starving, allowing Gourmand to reach areas they otherwise cannot.

Crafting

Crafting can be performed by holding Up and GRAB while standing still. Combining 2 different objects produces a new object. Combining 2 different foods causes Gourmand to consume both, gaining their food pips plus 1 additional food pip. Note that Bubble Fruit is considered a Rock when dry.

Regurgitating

If Gourmand has no stored stomach item, holding GRAB while standing still causes them to regurgitate a random item from the following list at the cost of 1 food pip. Attempting this without any food pips briefly stuns Gourmand, and no item spawns.

FOOD

The Gourmand requires 7 food pips to hibernate, while up to 4 may be stored for the next cycle.

TGourmand can eat from the bodies of slain creatures, though this gives 1/2 the food pips it would for fully carnivorous Slugcats (save for Centipedes, which all Slugcats except Saint can eat). Holding Up and GRAB while holding 2 different food items eats them as a meal, granting an additional food pip.

FOOD QUEST

Gourmand has the optional objective of completing their food tracker with 22 different types of food, which awards an alternate ending and unlocks Slugpups in both the Arena mode and all subsequent campaigns for Gourmand themself, Survivor, and Hunter, where they randomly spawn in Shelters.

The food tracker is found above Gourmand's food bar and shows any items they have eaten so far as well as a flashing icon of the next suggested food, though foods may be eaten in any order.

The list of foods in suggested order (entries marked with "or" require only one of the two to be eaten):
